Authorized Stock
Definition 1.
The maximum number of shares that a corporation is legally permitted to issue under its articles of incorporation. This figure is usually listed in the capital accounts section of the balance sheet.

The maximum number of shares of stock that a company can issue. It's specified initially in the company's charter, but it can be changed with shareholder approval. also called authorized shares or shares authorized.
