dollar drain
Definition 1.
A situation in which a country's imports from the U.S. exceed their exports to the U.S., which results in a reduction in their dollar reserves. The idea can also be applied to currencies of other countries.

Definition 2.
The impact of importing from foreign countries more than exporting to them. The money required to finance the import purchases removes dollars from the importing nation.
